Summary
AREA:
The study area covers the area south of the Hudson Strait to the Orphan Knoll Basin and from the Canadian east coast across to West Greenland.
CONTENT:
As well as proven gas reserves of over 4 tcf and 100 mmbbls of liquids based on the 28 wells drilled to date, the Labrador Shelf has numerous undrilled structures with good DHIs as recent reprocessing of seismic shows.
Exploration Geosciences had access to significant seismic data from Olympic Seismic and TGS-NOPEC with well data and other information being supplied by the Geological Survey Canada (GSC). Integrated Geochemical Interpretation (IGI) produced a geochemistry montage incorporating source rock quality and 2D maturity modelling. One of the project's main aims was to try and quantify the gross reserves of the area.
A selection of representative well logs and synthetics tied to interpreted seismic lines, together with enclosures depicting surface geology, tectonics, (supported by potential field data), reservoir and source rock distribution and quality have been used to develop play concepts and fairways.
Emphasis has been placed on integrating the study into the 'Arctic' region (an area covered in detail in Exploration Geosciences' Circum Arctic Project published in 2003) and knowledge was drawn from the ongoing exploration efforts in the Jeanne D'Arc/Flemish Pass, Baffin Bay/Lancaster Sound and West Greenland area.
